What Factors Make a Great Logo?

A great logo is typically characterized by several key factors, including:

  1. Simple:
A great logo should be simple and easily recognizable, even at small sizes.  Today with digital marketing accounting for a large percentage of a company's platform, a logo must be recognizable on screens as small as phones, that is obvious.  But a logo must also be recognizable as a favicon, and that is way more difficult to accomplish.

  2. Memorable:
We probably do not even need to say this because it is so obvious, but... great logo should be memorable and distinctive, so that it sticks in people's minds.  Let your mind wander, think of Pepsi, Nike, The NHL.    Makes sense right?

  3. Timeless:
A great logo should be designed with longevity in mind, so that it can remain relevant and effective for years to come.  See examples above.

  4. Versatile:
A great logo should be versatile, able to work across a variety of mediums, from business cards to billboards.

  5. Appropriate:
A great logo should be appropriate for the company or organization it represents, and should communicate the right message to its intended audience.

  6. Unique:
A great logo should be unique, setting the company or organization apart from competitors and helping it stand out in the marketplace.

  7. Scalable:
A great logo should be scalable, able to be enlarged or reduced without losing its visual impact.

By combining these elements, a great logo can effectively communicate the values and identity of a company or organization, and help it build brand recognition and loyalty over time.
